Q 3) Your green team
- How do you involve your staff in your environmental programme?
Every member of The Orchid team from the Managing Director down to the newest recruit has a total commitment towards being environmentally responsible.
- At the recruitment stage we select those individuals who had the drive in them or showed concern and care for the environment.
- Our team members on joining go through an intensive environmental training programme, which is conducted by our Training department alongwith the Environment Officer, after which there is a monthly departmental refresher programme. The team members are on a six-month environment training, on successful completion of which only are they confirmed.
- We have monthly activities for our team members in which they can participate, infact the staff has participated in preparing the Mission Statement.
We also have quiz, slogan competition, sketching & drawing competitions, Eco-Skits, on the spot surprise quiz, cleaning up drives. Antakshari (a game based on songs to be sung by the participating teams, here we have 1 round out of the 4 wherein the teams are made to sing songs related to the environment) and many more (Annexure 50).
- The team members also participate in programmes and activities organised for the community to spread and create the awareness of being environmentally responsible.
- We also have a Green Team in the hotel consisting of 11 members from different departments who are nominated by their respective departmental heads. Besides assisting in the various programmes implement the environment practices in their respective departments. They are also empowered to conduct training classes in their areas and go on inspection to various departments.
- What incentive or recognition do you give to your staff for environmental effort?
- Team members participating in any environment activities are given a gift for the efforts made by them e.g. as an incentive for the clean up drive all those who participated were given a tee-shirt with a environment slogan. For other ongoing competitions (mentioned above) winners are given momento's and on other occasions cash awards are given to the team members. The more dedicated team member is included into the Green Team of the hotel & made a Green Team member. They are also given a chance to represent the hotel at various seminars and events organised by the hotel and/or in which the hotel is participating. Not only the team members show active participation, involvement and commitment but also the executives and heads of departments.
